trivial things.

trivial things don’t seem so important today.

a dear friend of mine lost her sweet baby over the weekend.
and even though i never met him, he holds a special spot in my heart.
valiant, strong, courageous, and here long enough to teach us all a little about trivial things.
they don’t matter so much.

so these are for c & family today. sending much love.

in maui!

’tis the life of a salesman. at times i wonder how in the world jeff can possibly enjoy being in the sales profession. and at other times i say, yeah baby, keep it up!! he has been working his tail off since we moved to AZ and won an award trip so here we are…with lincoln in tow.

almost didn’t come because he is sick with an ear infection. but i finally decided i could either be sitting at home with a sick baby or sitting here. and, well, the view here is better. he is doing surprisingly well though. so it has been enjoyable.

off to watch jeff surf! over and out. 🙂

another love story

so as i’m welcoming in february, i been really inspired by wonderful love stories lately. one i’m sure you may be familiar with is this one…

presnsis

this past week as i’ve reflected on the life of President Hinckley and his sweet wife, i couldn’t help but be moved by the stories of their deep love for each other and especially his sorrow in her absence. he was so much more real to me when i heard that he spent many nights weeping after her death. what a sweet reunion they must have had!

how i have cherished this man all of my life! it started when i was just in primary and learned that we had the same birthday. ever since then, he has held a special place in my heart. and i did cry this weekend. but the tears were bittersweet.

so here is to great love stories! i think i will be searching them out and reflecting on them this month.

and working on my own…

families and love stories

a Garns family reunion at it’s finest! we all met here in arizona over new years weekend. what a par-tay!

gfam122907

i can’t help but think that this amazing family descended from two incredible people…and although i never met jeff’s granny and grandpa, i have learned enough about them to love them and cherish the love story they left behind. to quote jeff’s mom about their relationship, she said, “I’ve learned that I’m the recipient of the greatest gift a father can give his daughter; he loved my mother. He really loved my mother.”

i get choked up every time i hear that because when i look at these pictures, i can feel it. and i know that this entire family has been so blessed for that very reason.

and i hope that jeff and i leave behind that same legacy for our own children.

(the family photo is courtesy of uncle jerry and if any of you would like copies of these photos, email me and i’ll send them!)

tap, tap, is this thing on?

is it a new year already?

sheesh…where have i been? hmmm…well it’s been a wild and crazy place around here lately. then again, when is it not? 😉 but the holidays have come and gone and it’s been good. really good. only one regret this year. i didn’t get a christmas card sent out. whhhaaaat? the sky must be falling. or it’s a sign of the times. and yes it’s time to pull out the food storage! i mean i practically live my year just to create a christmas card, right? (insert giggle here). awh, i am a little sad. but it just never happened this year. just didn’t happen.
but a lot of good things did. and so…here is my makeshift card that will have to do.

the official countdown of the best darn things that happened to the mask family in the year 2007

10. we got to see leaves falling, fireworks in the tree tops, mice wearing sweaters, and pirates in the caribbean.
9. we’ve got a piano player. dallin is a champ on the ivories.
8. cherie becomes an excellent chef.
7. ella is the queen of saying “delishioth and nutrishioth”
6. dallin gives mom a great present…he becomes a real swimmer on her birthday.
5. we sell our house in a day. bendiciones.
4. cherie gets some cool opportunities to design stuff.
3. jeff accepts a job working with his bros. at infusion software.
2. we move to lone and dreary arizona (ok, i’m over the lone and dreary part now)
1. we welcomed adorable, sweet yet sleepless baby lincoln to our family!

one of these statements is false. have you guessed it?

hope you all had a fabulous 2007.

2008…bring it on! 🙂
