in maui!

’tis the life of a salesman. at times i wonder how in the world jeff can possibly enjoy being in the sales profession. and at other times i say, yeah baby, keep it up!! he has been working his tail off since we moved to AZ and won an award trip so here we are…with lincoln in tow.

almost didn’t come because he is sick with an ear infection. but i finally decided i could either be sitting at home with a sick baby or sitting here. and, well, the view here is better. he is doing surprisingly well though. so it has been enjoyable.

off to watch jeff surf! over and out. 🙂

another love story

so as i’m welcoming in february, i been really inspired by wonderful love stories lately. one i’m sure you may be familiar with is this one…

presnsis

this past week as i’ve reflected on the life of President Hinckley and his sweet wife, i couldn’t help but be moved by the stories of their deep love for each other and especially his sorrow in her absence. he was so much more real to me when i heard that he spent many nights weeping after her death. what a sweet reunion they must have had!

how i have cherished this man all of my life! it started when i was just in primary and learned that we had the same birthday. ever since then, he has held a special place in my heart. and i did cry this weekend. but the tears were bittersweet.

so here is to great love stories! i think i will be searching them out and reflecting on them this month.

and working on my own…

families and love stories

a Garns family reunion at it’s finest! we all met here in arizona over new years weekend. what a par-tay!

i can’t help but think that this amazing family descended from two incredible people…and although i never met jeff’s granny and grandpa, i have learned enough about them to love them and cherish the love story they left behind. to quote jeff’s mom about their relationship, she said, “I’ve learned that I’m the recipient of the greatest gift a father can give his daughter; he loved my mother. He really loved my mother.”

i get choked up every time i hear that because when i look at these pictures, i can feel it. and i know that this entire family has been so blessed for that very reason.

and i hope that jeff and i leave behind that same legacy for our own children.

(the family photo is courtesy of uncle jerry and if any of you would like copies of these photos, email me and i’ll send them!)

we are so first timers

at this parenting gig!

last night was officially our first school program. you know the scene…eager, goofy parents cheering and waving and beaming watching their children fidget with their clothes, drop and pick up their hats a few hundred times and, of course, sing cutesy songs that make you laugh. and we can’t forget the slew of video cameras, tripods, and roving paparazzi trying to make elbow room to take that shot of your darling kiddo!

it was fun. so very fun to finally take part in this parenting first. and ella was fascinated too as she yelled out after the songs, “oh, dallin, you did tho good!”

and granny even got to come too. what a treat!

her very first…

mani pedi!

img_0558_w

i painted both her nails and toes for the first time today. she let me do her toes once before but today was the big move to the fingernails. and it was all her idea. i’m not surprised though. i think i paint my nails once a year and even then it is with clear nail polish! but the toes, ah the toes. a pedicure is sheer heaven for me. a sweet indulgence.

and with this little girly girl, we’ve only just begun!

… a little side note to this story…
she ran downstairs after i finished her nails. then i heard her crying.
“he’th not here! he’th not here! where ith he?”
“who?”
“daddy. i wanna show daaaaddy.”
“oh he’s at work, ella. you can show him when he gets home.”
“will you take my picture tho he can see my pretty pinky nailth?”
“of course!”

so here you go, daddy. how she adores you!
