jerry seinfeld material

am i the only one who has this problem?
i was in a public restroom the other day and realized i seem to always have the same malfunction.
you know those sanitary paper seat covers you have to pull out, separate, and place on the toilet for your hygenic protection, right? well, the same thing happens to me every time.
i pull it out.
try to separate it and end up ripping it in the wrong place. oh well.
i place in on the seat.
the torn part falls into the water and the race clock starts ticking.
the water begins to soak the paper and it gets heavier. slipping. gradually. slipping. into the bowl.
i’m frantically trying to get my pants undone and sit down before it completely falls into the toilet.
hurry. hurry. uh. oh. wait. too. late.
it slips in. and i stand there wondering if i care enough to pull another one out and try again.
i look up at the wall and read "provided by the management for your protection" and i seriously feel like taking a pen and writing over it "provided by the management for your torture." 🙂

it happenend once again last week. but this time i sat there and laughed and thought jerry seinfeld could have made an incredibly hilarious episode out of this.

the city

it was full of life. movement. action. energy.

my camera simply doesn’t do it justice. but i had fun anyhow.
i am a people watcher. i am fascinated with their stories. i am intrigued by their lives.
the day in the city was feast for me. so many people. so many stories meshing together.
it was invigorating to jump into it all for a little while.
here’s a little glimpse of what i saw and experienced. the city called for black and white, so that’s exactly what i gave it.
a few of my favorites

choices.

been thinking a lot lately about choices. my choices. others’ choices. and the grand effect of them all.
life really is all about choices, isn’t it? after all, the reason why we are here is about allowing us the freedom to choose. bad or good.
it seems like so often, people feel a need to explain their behavior as a result of what their parents have done or not done or should have done or shouldn’t have done. me included. but when it all comes down to the ‘nitty gritty’, don’t i have the choice? to choose some habits or traits, etc. and not choose others?
i guess i just feel like it is my responsibility to shape who i am and who i want to be. it doesn’t make sense to fault others for my shortcomings. if i want to change them. i can choose to do so.

basically it boils down to this: dallin and ella, if i totally mess up on motherhood, please don’t hate me forever. please choose to remember the good. and forget how i cook. 😉

going back to cali.

it’s been an awesome trip! filled with fun, family, friends, and freaky wicked heat. we’ve loved it. but now it’s time to go back, dare i say, home. just this past week i’ve found myself telling people we are from california instead of my usual lengthy explanation that i grew up in utah, jeff in arizona, but now we live in california…yadda, yadda, yadda.
i’ve often wondered how long we’d need to live in a place before we’d both claim it as home. we’ve been married six years and lived three of those in cali. dallin has lived most of his life there as well.
will i eventually call myself a california girl? probably only if i bleach my hair blond and buy a string bikini. don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon. 🙂
for now, it is where we are. it is home. we love it. we’re going back to cali…

she just makes everything fun.

menewhair22_1

had such a fun, fabulous time with rhonna this weekend!

doesn’t she just look fun to be around? yep, she is all that! thanks for letting me tag along, cutie!

CHA (craft & hobby association) was fun to see in action. it’s total eye candy. the product buzz. the designer chat. the who’s who. and the who wants to be a ‘who’. 🙂

i was clearly not a ‘who’, but i had so much fun watching rhonna in her divine ‘who’hood. she wears it well. humble. genuine. just doing her thing and enjoying the process.

in fact, on the airplane, i started chatting with the people sitting next to me. when i told them i was attending CHA and my sister-in-law was rhonna farrer, she literally fell back in her chair and exclaimed, "no! are you serious? rhonna? she’s like famous! that means you’re like almost famous!"  for the rest of the flight, i would catch her looking over at me every once in a while very indiscreetly.

me? famous? well, almost. 🙂

in rare form.

ella_smile_2

a smile.
all i need is a smile from this little girl.
lately, smiles are few and far between.

maybe it’s a stage.
maybe it’s teething.
maybe it’s separation anxiety.

all i know is at the end of the day, i am spent.
exhausted.
drained.
and i wonder if she’ll be happier tomorrow.

but for now, i’ll take this smile.
and love her to pieces.
and hold her.
and calm her.
and try to be the best mommy i can.

what are we teaching this kid anyway?

yesterday i took dallin into the doctor’s office to have them check out his ear. he had been on an antibiotic for an ear infection and it appears that the medication didn’t do diddly. so, i took him back to have another go at it. poor little guy.

anyhow, the doctor that saw dallin was great. very personable, charismatic. nice guy.
the doc was asking dallin questions and asked, "so, dallin, what do you want to be when you grow up?"
dallin, matter of factly said, "a missionary."
the doctor looked down at him in shock. "a missionary?" he questioned.
"yes." said dallin.
the doctor laughed and said, "well, dallin, that’s the first time i’ve ever heard a kid your age say that."
then the doctor looked at me and asked, "is daddy a minister or something?"

that’s my boy!
🙂
