Beautiful Colors. Beautiful People.

I keep saying beautiful over and over. What else can I say? The colors of Guatemala are truly spectacular. But the people…they make it vibrant. I love looking at all of these women and children and knowing that they each have a story to tell. What an incredible experience to capture just a tiny part of it and bring it home with me!

  3. I would be so much more efficient if I could put the baby on my back and my groceries on my head…wonderful pictures, and stories.

  4. I look at these photos and I see the faces that I remember, I see the villages they are from. For Mayan women from the highlands of Guatemala, the Traje (traditional dress) is a statement of her cultural and personal identity. Through her weavings she has an important role in both clothing her family and keeping the threads of the Mayan culture together. Each Maya village has its own style of weaving and dress so you can usually tell which village a women is from by the style of her traje. The tops are called Huipils (pronounced wi-peels). My favorite Huipil is from Santa Catarina Palopo. It is the turqouise based one the women in your last two pictures are wearing. Santa Catarina is a small Village along the shores of Lago Atitlan. I went there once as a missionary and was overwhelmed with its beauty!
I can not thank you enough for posting these pictures. I have been dreaming about Guatemala the last few weeks and then randomly (but not coincidentally–I don’t believe in coincidences) Tricia mentions your blog to me. This is doing my soul good!!
