before i go any further, let me give a huge disclaimer…i realize this is a little much for a birthday party. but truth be told, it was so much fun for me that, well, i figured it was a party for both of us. i don't remember having very many birthday parties when i was younger. in fact, i only remember one. the year i turned 5 i had a strawberry shortcake party. the details are still vivid in my mind. i loved everything about it.
so when ella told me she wanted a strawberry shortcake party for her 5th birthday, you can imagine i was all about it. most of all, i wanted her to remember it like i remember mine. you don't need to have a ton of birthday parties…just one or two that make childhood magical.
and that is exactly what it felt like for her. and me.
